Definition of Health Services Research

"Health services research is the multidisciplinary field of scientific investigation that studies how social factors, financing systems, organizational structures and processes, health technologies, and personal behaviors affect access to healthcare, the quality and cost of healthcare, and ultimately our health and well-being.“  -Academy for Health Services Research and Health Policy, 10/2000

 

Our Aims

· Investigate how treatments are delivered in real-world settings

· Improve treatment outcomes, cost effectiveness

· Investigate how organization and financing influence the quality and accessibility of care

· Support evidence based policymaking

 

Our Role

· Develop and coordinate policies and programmes that will facilitate Health Services Research in NUH

· Promote a vibrant research culture for quality improvement in NUH by enhancing and facilitating interaction between investigators in different disciplines and supporting young HSR researchers through mentorship and start-up programmes.

 

Our Achievements

· NUH: first hospital in Singapore to publish clinical outcome data on its website, providing greater transparency and benchmarking against international outcomes

· To date NUH has developed tracking systems in 6 departments for 35 clinical indicators and publishing of 11 clinical out  come indicators
