About GRID
The Office of Biomedical
Research (OBR) has developed an online web based database system, GRID
(General Research Inpatient Database).
This online database allows researchers to access de-identified patient
records in order to either determine whether the sample size would justify for
initiating a research project, or prioritize the areas of research project to be
carried out first.
GRID contains inpatient data
extracted from NUH electronic medical records system. GRID allows online search for all NUH
inpatients, based on a set of search criteria selected by the researchers. The database gives de-identified
information on age, sex, clinical diagnostics and procedures done according to
data entered on the inpatient discharge summary forms. Clinical diagnosis and
procedures are based on ICD-9 and DRG classification. The databases are updated
periodically to include the latest patient records.
The data
can be searched online by the following criteria:
- Specialty
- Sex
- Age
- DRG
Description
- Principal
diagnosis
- Secondary
diagnosis
- Date
of admission
- Listing
by individual subject
Users
have a selection of 23 specialities and the entire list of ICD-9
options.
Application Guidelines
Researchers who need to
access the database must first sign a non-disclosure application form. For
patient confidentiality, users should not attempt to back trace these records to
the patients. Users must take
appropriate precaution to ensure confidentiality of all data retrieved from the
databases. More details are
available in the User ID application Procedure & Guidelines. For more
information, contact the GRID administrator.
